NEXT MEETING: April 14, 2004 7:00 PM - Meade Library Meeting Room

MARCH 10, 2005: The Alumni Committee met  at the Library Community Room. We had another good turn-out and several things were finalized.

Vashti Seybert is in charge of recording the class lunches and other functions. Vashti hadn’t received many before this meeting, but several came forward with their plans. The classes of 41-45 will meet together as will the classes of 46-47, 48-52, late 50’s, 60-63. The class of 64 is meeting for lunch by themselves. The classes of 65 to 69 will meet at the City Park for a pass-the-hat picnic lunch, and the classes of 72-73 will meet Friday evening. These were all the events turned in so far. Alumni planning class functions need to contact Vashti and let her know where you will be. One member reported that the Lakeway has offered to fix a buffet in the basement of the hotel for any classes that would like to meet there. The meal will cost $10 each and they can seat as many classes as they have chairs for. We don’t need every detail now, but we will need to include as much of this information in the newsletter as possible.

The newsletter will be done by Nancy Ohnick, and plans are to have it in the mail by the April 15, 2004. Last time the Newsletter contained all the class functions, an outline of the Reunion schedule and registration information. We will use the same format for this year’s newsletter.

Teresa Cottrell reported that the golf course has been reserved and she is still looking for someone to run the tournament. She is in hopes that some of the Country Club members that did not graduate here will volunteer to help with the tournament so that the Alumni members won’t have to miss their class functions. Call Teresa if you would like to volunteer.

Paul Brinckman and Craig Unruh are working on the 3-on-3 basketball tournament. It will be from 8:00 am until noon at the Grade School Gym. You can get information from these two by email or phone. There will be a check-off on the registration if you are interested in basketball.

There were several ideas tossed around about the program. Janeal Brinckman suggested a basketball game with alumni and faculty participating, but didn’t receive much support. Most members agreed that music by the all-alumni choir and all-alumni band would be the perfect program. If you have any ideas, contact Janeal, who is still looking for a chairman for this committee.

Our president, Larry Boyd, was absent at this meeting, so we took the opportunity to make him the chairman of the nominating committee. Larry will be the one to see if you want to serve on this committee or volunteer for a position. This committee will present recommendations for new officers at the Alumni Reunion.

Vashti Seybert is also in charge of a school-days display in the Pennick Room at the Meade Public Library during the reunion. She would like to have your photos or any school memorabilia you might have of school days at old Meade High. This would be considered a loan for the display and returned to you after the event.

The Baptist Church has offered to serve a breakfast at the fairgrounds on Saturday Morning. There is also an opening for some group to serve breakfast on Sunday morning prior to the Alumni church service. Everyone agreed that the church service is a good idea and that all the churches in Meade should be informed of the event.

After the regular meeting the executive committee met and finalized the registration fees for this reunion. The registration has been set at $25.00 per person with extra meals being $10.00 each. This fee will cover the meal and any dances you wish to attend. We want to stress that anyone who wishes to eat at the reunion banquet MUST pre-register. We are going to very tough this time around because we had such a disaster last time with the meal. Heart and Home of Meade will be catering the banquet and we must provide them with an accurate number prior to the reunion. So, if you plan to come at the last minute, you are welcome just don’t expect to eat the banquet meal.

The deadline of July 10, 2004, has been set for registrations to be in our hands.

FEBRUARY 10, 2004: That's more like it!! We had a good turn-out and got a lot accomplished. Vashti Painter Seybert offered to take the Luncheon committee, so if you have a class get together planned for Friday night or Saturday at noon, let Vashti know.

Steve Norsworthy has taken the Church Service project. Michelle Hoffman Correll has taken the Clean-Up Committee. Janeal Hill Brinckman has taken the Program Committee (Well, she offered to FIND someone anyway.) Jerry Shannon has taken the Publicity Committee.

The Banquet committee reports that they have hired a caterer, the Dance Committee has hired bands. The Band that plays at the Fairgrounds will include our own Mark Zeyen!

Things are moving right along. Expect to see a newsletter in the mail early in April with registration information and all the news!

Teresa Cottrell is looking for someone to head the Golf Tournament and Paul Brinckman

JANUARY 13, 2004: We did not have good participation at this meeting. Most things were tabled until February. Still need chairmen for the committees below. The reunion is only 6 months away!

OCTOBER 26, 2004: One more committee chair was filled tonight. Dennis Reimer will head the decorating committee. If you'd like to help with this contact Dennis. We reviewed some bids for the banquet meal and decided to choose between two vendors who we will interview at the next meeting.

We still need chairs for the following committees:
  • Publicity (needs to report on meetings in the newspaper),
  • Program (needs to plan the program for Saturday night),
  • Luncheons (needs to keep track of what class luncheon is where and who is the contact),
  • Clean Up and Golf:

SEPTEMBER 21, 2004: We decided to buy stamps for the post cards this time as the price of a permit has gone way out of reason. The post cards are about ready to go out... We'll have a stamping party next week. Some committee chairs were appointed:

Dance Committee, Sharon & Rodney Blehm

Banquet Committee: Gloria Thompson McKinney

    Committee Chairman needed:
  • Luncheon: (This person keeps track of all the class luncheons and parties),
  • Program: (This committee plans the program, arranges for the sound equipment, etc.),
  • Decorating: (This committee decorates the banquet tables),
  • Clean up, and Golf Tournament: If anyone wants basketball or tennis... volunteer! We have spoken to Waldo Wiens about doing the choir again and he is willing if Carol Loewen Unruh will help.
